ABSTRACT
In these days to get more production and reduce loss intercropping is being practiced everywhere. Apart from its benefits a survey was conducted to know about disadvantage of intercropping. We conducted a survey on intercropping in sugarcane, onion and garlic. It was found that apart from onion and garlic thrips have no common insect which were- Onion maggot and tobacco caterpillar (onion) and Mites, Leaf miners, Wheat curl miners, Nematodes (Garlic). Similarly sugarcane have uncommon pest like, Top shoot borers, Termites, White grub, White woolly aphid, White fly, Mealy bug etc. So intercropping these crops in a field will lead to increase in pest population, AS WELL ASD EXPENSE ON INSECTICIDE. As we come to nutrition, for proper growth  of onion and garlic need more amount of sulphur so leaving no or less sulphur in soil for sugarcane moreover sugarcane is heavy feeder, 800q cane/hac needs 90-110 kg of N, 180-300 kg P2O5, 60-80 Kg K20 hence competition for nutrition will increase which will affect growth. Intercropping increase the weed population and hence effect plant growth and weedicide duty. According to survey onion and sugarcane have only one common weed i.e. chenopodium album rest weeds of onion – Medicago polymorpha, Convolvulus arvensis, Avena sterlis and of garlic- Barley hare, Barn yard grass, Dock dodders and sugarcane- Lathyrus sativa, vicia spp, Angallis arvensis and Fumaria parviflora doesn’t exhibit any similar properties so to control them more weedicide will be needed or weed population will increase. To overcome all these problem it will involve excess use of fertilizer and insecticide which have their residual effect. So crops having different pest and weeds must be avoided in intercropping.
